Our shop specializes in providing a professional service
for the maintenance and restoration of instruments and bows. All work is artistically executed in the
finest traditional manner. Anyone who has observered the adjustment or repair
process for a string instrument or bow rehair quickly realizes that the hands of a
craftsperson are as important as those of a musician. The Violin Shop:
professional repairs, adjustments and maintenance; experience our
difference.
A Professional Luthier is NOT: a person trained through a summer course; a person who has worked as a helper
in a shop; a person making their living as a 'professional musician' (who through their
playing experience now performs
repairs on the side); a carpenter turned violin maker/repairer.
A true Luthier has dedicated years of their life's passion to their
craft. A Luthiers experience working in the industry include years of training &
schooling in instrument/bow repair, making,
and restoration, all of which makes them highly specialized in their art form.
When seeking a person to work on your instrument/bow, find a professionally trained Luthier!
The work will speak for it's self.
Work is completed on a 'first come, first serve' bases. With our present in-house
work load - expect a 14-21 day turn-a-round time
for basic instrument set-up. For a requisite fee: 'demand-work', in most cases, can be
completed within 2 days. Please call or email our workshop for details.
At present, RESTORATION PROJECTS are on a wait list of 6 - 8 months, please contact our shop for details. Restoration of any instrument or bow may take time. During the repair
period, and depending on availability, players have the option of
renting
an instrument or bow from us. In the case where an instrument or bow has
suffered damage due to an accident, we can provide a 'Restoration Estimate'
for your insurance company. Estimates on labour may vary once the repair or
restoration procedures begin. Any further costs or additional work will be
explained, and agreed upon by the client prior to completion of the work. A
50% deposit is required on all repair/restoration work.
Acoustically, instrument set up is the most important process to enhance
and optimize its tonal qualities. A properly
set-up
instrument plays an
important role in the musical development of beginning students. For the
advanced and professional player an individual style can be tailored
according to style of music, ensemble type and audience characteristics.
Bow rehairing is attempted by many and mastered by few. A good rehair
aids in the strength and longevity of a straight stick and aids in bow
response for the player. Depending on feasibility, rehairs can be
completed within 24 hours. 'Rehair while you wait' - is an available service with a requisite fee.
Please call in advance to arrange the day and time.
